Coyote Wine Crawl

Well, it was and artful and enjoyable evening in Cashmere at the  Cashmere Arts and Activities Center Second Saturday Event.  The wine was excellent – provided by Crayelle Cellars, Waterville Winery and the Horan Estates Winery. People came, they enjoyed the art and some folks bought pictures of coyotes and the hillsides above Wenatchee. The new art was exquisite. Cashmere is really turning into an enjoyable and happening place to spend and evening.  There was talk of getting Scott Allen who is presently showing at the Robert Graves Gallery at Wenatchee Valley Community College to show at the CAAC Gallery perhaps over the summer. We shall see if that comes about. That would be quite a coo for the CAAC gallery and really help to put it on the artistic map of central Washington. Let’s hope that that comes off as hoped for.

Young American Artists and Indi Folk Music

Well, today is already shaping up to be a very interesting and productive day artistically. This morning I drove out to Waterville to take some pictures of a vase made by Terry Johnson, that I was told had the name of the restaurant on it. As I am looking to help Terry promote his art and thought that custom ceramics with logos and or other designs suited to specific business customers could be a good avenue for him to sell more of his ceramics. So, with camera in hand I took the trek over Badger Mountain to the county seat – Waterville, population small and a half. It’s a great little town really. When I got to the Blue Rooster Bakery and café, I was pleasantly surprised to find that they not only had ‘the pot’ , but several others of Terry’s and they were in the process of setting up an art show for some young American talent from the towns of Waterville, Chelan and Orondo. Steve Miranda is the featured artist through June 4^th. The work was very promising by all the young artists. Joining Steve in this show are Alex Davila, September Raines and Jessica Schank.  A self described ‘Indie Folk’ musician named Joe Moser was provided live acoustic guitar music for the two day opening this weekend. The owners Cathy and Bruce Clark are a very nice ‘semi-retired’ couple who enjoy good art and wanted to provide a place for local artists to exhibit their work. They have had other potters showing and quilters and Bruce himself is no slouch as a photographer. I was fortunate enough to see some of his work while I was there and would like to see him show some of his photos at the Cashmere Arts and Activity Center. After seeing some of my cards that I had with me, Cathy, who really liked my nature / bird photos, mused about the possibility of a future Bird Photo Show. I would really like to show there especially when they are having birders in town (Waterville is a good place for bird spotting). And, not to forget my original purpose in going to Waterville, I did get some good shots of Terry’s pot (s) while I was there and should be able to make good use of those in helping to promote his work.

While on my way to and from Waterville I, of course, took a few outdoor shots. Some of these have some real promise. We shall see after I thoroughly look over them and make any minor adjustments and cropping to see what really works.

Meanwhile after writing this blog I will be heading off to Cashmere for our Second Saturday Art Show and wine tasting. I’m sure looking forward to that…hee haa. I’ve already spoken with Artie Bowman by phone about having Bruce Clark show some of his work at Cashmere one of these times. Thigs as always are looking good for art. Gotta love it.

Two Buck Chuck No More - at Second Saturday

Well, it’s been a busy week again for art. Martha is not here, but the art goes on.  I set up an amazon.com sellers account for the Two Rivers Gallery and listed an art book for them there, set up an email address for a fellow artist who ‘doesn’t do computer’, began designing some marketing materials and developing a mailing list for potential art buyers, blogged several times for the Wenatchee World Arts in the Valley and Beyond blog and somehow found time to do some work with my own photos. I’m still having some trouble getting the digital art piece titled “It Came Out of the Sky” just right.  During the week I visited the local artist who doesn’t do computers a couple of times. One time I met a women there that has also tried to help him with computer stuff. She and her husband are retired IBM techs’. She seemed to think the answer for him is an IPAD and ‘the cloud’. I may have to learn about that stuff myself.  On another day he gave me a url address to what he said was a UTUBE video of him. As it was it was a fairly well developed web page with an online gallery that yet another fellow traveler set up for him. It had a couple of pages of his ceramic art with prices (which were too low especially in that it stated that shipping was included in the price). Besides the fact that he would never know if someone were trying to buy something from the site, the shipping would kill any possibility of profit.  He gave me the phone number of the PhD. person (someone who worked in the shop for him as a teenager years ago and who wanted like me to help him out) who set it up for him so I can coordinate with him to try to make the site a viable place to sell his work and actually make some money at it. I haven’t called him yet….been way too busy.

Yesterday I attended the Two Rivers Gallery Board meeting and we worked for over three hours on all kinds of stuff… planning, planning, planning… I ended up on a new committee to put together a plan for a plein-air paint-out to be part of the ribbon cutting celebration for the soon to be Saddelrock Park up in the hills above Wenatchee.  I won’t go into all the other stuff we worked on here… it was enough spending time on all that last night.  One thing I found out though was that Martha has been selected by the City of Wenatchee to paint a mural in the south end of town on one of the big electrical boxes that artists have been sought after to submit applications to paint as part a beautification project for the city. And, she'll get paid to do it whohoo! When I told her about it this morning on the phone (she’s in Texas visiting grand kids there) she shared that over the phone she also got confirmation of a paid project to do art with kids this summer through I believe it was Catholic Family and Child Services.  Everyone at the board meeting was pleased with what I’ve been doing with the blog. We talked about the blog about the most recent First Friday especially. Prior to the board meeting I saw the new show at the Robert Graves Gallery…I liked it and the artist Scott Allen. Very  enjoyable.

Tomorrow night is an awards ceremony at the museum where Ruth Allan another Artist and Board member of TRG will get a “living Treasure” award.  Congratulations Ruth, you deserve it. I’d like to go and celebrated her success and take pictures for the blog, but I am committed to Second Saturday at the Cashmere Arts and Activity Center, where I am still the featured artist until the end of April. There, we are expecting to have wine donated by some local wineries which should make that a special treat…no more Two Buck Chuck at the Second Saturday events yippy!

Tery Johnson Ceramics and Two Rivers Seller Account

Well, yesterday was a busy and fulfilling day of artistic endeavors. In the morning I worked on the beginnings of a marketing plan and for friend and artist Terry Johnson.  Terry makes really great ceramics. I set up an email address for him terryjohnsonsignsandceramics@hotmail.com  as he doesn’t do computer, and organized pics of his art and worked on the script for a flier.

About the time I was to that point with the terry Johnson project, it was time to do my stint as docent for Two rivers Gallery. There I consulted with Jan Theriault about selling a book online. Someone has donated a 1975 copy of Richard Schmid Paints Landscapes- an item that is advertised by others for sale at amazon.com for close to $200.00. After Jan left I set up an Amazon.com sellers account for the gallery and listed the book for $175.00.

Meanwhile work at home continues on new art and I contacted the Wenatchee World Librarian regarding an article from the 1990’s that mentioned both Martha and the famous Walter Graham (as well as other local artists). She was able to find an article from 1995 and emailed the text of the article to me. I responded and asked if it is possible to get a copy of the hard copy with the accompanying photo. No word back on that yet.  I forwarded the article as it is to Martha who is in Texas with her grand daughters at this moment, and she was so pleased and said that is in fact the right article….of course she wants the picture…. I’m really hoping we can get a copy of it.

Meanwhile tonight is First Friday at Two Rivers Gallery and five other downtown Wenatchee locations. Hope we have a good turnout… I’m looking forward to meeting with Terry Johnson there and giving him updates on his email address and the marketing plan.
