Well, it’s been a busy and artful week for Martha and me. Last Thursday, I installed my photos at the Lemolo’s café in Wenatchee. Lemolo’s is the cool place in town to have lunch in downtown Wenatchee right across from the Performing Arts Center. This is the second time that I have been the featured artist at Lemolo’s, the first time being a year or more ago. So, in picking the art to hang I had to go through my stock carefully so as to have different art than last time. Mostly it is new, with maybe a couple of the same pieces as before. When I went in last Friday around 1pm to put up the name/ price cards the place was pretty busy and folks were asking me about the pieces… that was nice.
This week Martha had me frame and wire-up a couple of her oils to donate to the Festival of Trees at the Performing Arts Center. Unfortunately, I didn’t think to take photos of the pieces before she took them down… oops! They’re nice pieces and in keeping with the theme of the show and fundraiser and a good representation of Martha’s style at the same time.
Meanwhile, Gary Doan over at the NUART Gallery in East Wenatchee made arraignments with us to have Martha Paint while dancing or dance while painting as you see it, at his gallery on Saturday November the 26th … Thanksgiving weekend. Her artwork - both originals and prints will be prominently displayed at the front of the gallery. And, so I am preparing more prints for that show. The event will be in this month’s Icicle Arts Newsletter… thanks to Anna Miller. She’s also publishing our Home Art Sale slated for Saturday and Sunday December 3rd and 4th. We are really looking forward to a successful sale as good or better than our last home art sale. That reminds me, I need to talk to Terry Johnson about a magnetic sign for my truck so I can park it down the street and help folks find us when the sale happens.
And speaking of Terry Johnson, my bowl I have working on at his studio/shop survived its initial bisque firing and is ready to glaze. I haven’t had the time to do so yet, but will. I need to get a glass bottle cutter (anyone out there have one) to cut the bottom off of a wine bottle to then put in the bowl (melted somewhat) to serve as a down pour for the water that will come up through the center hole I made, when I make a fountain out of it.
Yesterday was my day to open the Two Rivers Gallery, which presented a challenge, as I really wanted to go to the Cashmere Arts and Activities Center when the Wenatchee Watercolor Society was to be there to see Yuri Konyshev’s show. They planned to go there at 10:30. Fortunately new TRG board member Harold Jones was available to open the gallery, which allowed for me to head over to Cashmere with Martha. Thanks Harold.
There was a good turnout there, Jan Theriault and several members of the Watercolor Society were there. Yuri was there and he expressed his happiness with the video I made of him singing and which I posted on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-oMcp-lrf8&feature=channel_video_title
While there too we met and talked with Alevsander Kangopolkev ( I hope I got that right) who was a student of Yuri’s in Russia and who has a gallery in La Conner where he has sold Yuri’s artwork for eighteen years. The two of them even painted a 5,000 square foot ceiling of an Orthodox church in San Francisco a few years ago. After everyone looked at all the artwork, Yuri and Alexander, who acted as Yuri’s translator, gave a talk and took questions from the audience. All in all it was a fine way to spend the morning. I got a few pictures and Martha and I had a very good time.
After, the visit to the Cashmere Arts and Activities Center, it was back to Wenatchee for lunch at Lemolo’s as Martha had not seen the installation there. On the way we spoke with Anna Miller of the Icicle Arts Gallery by phone the upshot of which was that we donated our recycled art piece from the show last month to the gallery for their permanent collection. We were happy, she was happy… all is good.
Back in town the meal was good at Lemolo’s and Martha liked my show… she made some good observations and I made corrections as to placement and added one more piece to the show… that being my’ Neon Eagle’ which wasn’t wired for hanging yet when I first installed the show. So, now it’s complete.
This morning I put the finishing touches on my video about the Town Toyota Center. I had wanted to do so much more with that including so voiceovers and such, but in the end partly due to time constraints and the desire to get it out there in a timely manner, I opted to go with the natural sound as I recorded it on location, and added a few more captions and commentary at the end. It’s more political than art so; I won’t include a link here, but anyone interested can just go to my 56DAUT channel on Youtube to find it. That being done it’s time to get a crack’n at my reports and other paper work for my real work.
